Standing on the Side of Love

Hip. Happy. Crunchy.

Today I cried. For a change it wasn’t for some dumb reason like I was so frustrated with the kids my choices were cry or yell, or because I have a weird association with the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” and welled up somewhere inappropriate like the grocery store. But because the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in favor of marriage equality.

Today I cried because for millions of people nation-wide, this is huge. Suddenly in this way, they have become full citizens. The 1500+ rights, privileges, and benefits of legal marriage are now available to them. Their government now must recognize them and their children as full citizens.
